As the Founder of Lapeer Christian Counseling, Susan Lovelette, LMSW has built a practice that welcomes clients from all walks of life. Sue’s vision is rooted in offering accessible, meaningful care across communities and faith backgrounds.
Get to Know Sue
I’ve been a social worker for over 35 years, working in a range of settings from medical social work to early intervention, long-term care, community mental health, and even as a juvenile probation officer. I primarily see adults (18+) and have a special passion for helping anxious clients, especially women, as well as those navigating chronic illness, end-of-life issues, and major life transitions like college and young adulthood. I also provide supervision to newly licensed therapists as they develop their confidence and clinical skills.
In my practice, I combine the comfort of traditional talk therapy with the effectiveness of specialized methods such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). ART is an evidence-based approach proven to help clients resolve trauma, grief, anxiety, and distressing memories in a shorter timeframe than many traditional therapies. I work to create a safe, supportive environment where my clients can feel the love and compassion that Jesus teaches while working through painful experiences and finding true hope with a positive way forward.
On a Personal Note
When I’m not in the office with clients, I love to read, travel, and explore the outdoors, especially camping and chasing waterfalls in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. My husband and I have been married for over 30 years, and while no marriage is without its challenges, ours has deepened my understanding of the importance of relationships. We have three adult children, including a special needs adult with ASD who is living independently, which has given me a unique perspective on parenting and resilience.
At home, life is never dull with my dog and (usually) three cats, though I try to keep it to a two-cat limit! When I’m relaxing, you can find me watching hockey (I’m an avid Flint Firebirds fan), enjoying chips and salsa at my favorite local Mexican spot, or diving into a good book. I especially love reading about the history of Judaism and its connection to Christian traditions, historical fiction (particularly WWII), psychological thrillers, and lighthearted stories.
I believe that everyone deserves a safe space to heal and be truly seen. I am dedicated to providing a practice that reflects respect, inclusivity, and care for all . . . no matter your background, faith, or lifestyle. My goal is to help individuals and families move forward with greater purpose, peace, and connection.
