Life can feel overwhelming sometimes. Whether you're battling anxiety that won’t let up, navigating a difficult season in your relationships, or lying awake at night with a racing mind, you're not alone.
At Lapeer Christian Counseling, our goal is simple: to help you heal and thrive. Life can feel overwhelming sometimes. Maybe you're battling anxiety that just won’t let up, navigating a difficult season in your relationships, or lying awake at night with a racing mind, you're not alone. You may feel worn down, stretched thin, or unsure how to move forward. But you don’t have to go through this alone.

We welcome you exactly as you are.
We are faith-based in our values and approach, but we do not bring faith-based practices into our sessions. Whether faith is central to your life or not something you connect with, we respect your beliefs and background. No one should have to carry their burdens in silence. Healing begins when you're heard, supported, and offered practical tools grounded in both clinical wisdom and spiritual care.

You Might Need Treatment for Depression if:
Primary Symptoms
Depression has two main symptoms. To receive a diagnosis, at least 1 of these must be present:
- An overwhelming, persistent sense of sadness
- A loss of interest or pleasure in activities you normally enjoy

Additional Symptoms
Changes in appetite
Changes in sleep patterns
Physical restlessness
Sluggishness
Agitation
Fatigue
Feelings of worthlessness
Feelings of guilt
Recurring thoughts of self-harm or death
Difficult concentrating or making decisions

In Younger Children
Worrying about parents dying
Anxiety when away from parents
Refusing to go to school

In Teens
Increased irritability
Behavior problems
Living with these feelings day after day can feel like carrying around an invisible weight that touches every part of your day. This can be incredibly draining on your energy and clouding your thoughts. But help is available to guide you toward a healthier mental space and quality of life.

Is Trauma Therapy Right for You?
PTSD symptoms can begin after any event where a person is exposed to death, serious injury, sexual violence, or the threat of one of these events, even if physical harm did not actually occur. This could be by directly experiencing the event, watching it happen to another person, hearing about it happening to a loved one, or repeated exposure to these events.
PTSD typically last more than one month and has several types of symptoms:

Avoidance
Avoiding distressing memories, thoughts, or feelings related to the trauma
Steering clear of people, places, events, activities, or objects that bring reminders of the event

Changes in Thinking Patterns or Mood
Negative beliefs about yourself or the world
Self-blame for the event
Persistent negative emotions like guilt, fear, horror, or shame
Loss of interest in activities once enjoyed
Feeling detached or disconnected from others
Trouble feeling positive emotions
Difficulty recalling important parts of the event

Other Symptoms Related to Reactions or Startle
Irritable behavior or angry outbursts
Reckless or self-destructive actions
Hypervigilance (feeling constantly “on guard”)
Exaggerated startle response
Difficulty concentrating
Sleep disturbances, including trouble falling or staying asleep
You can see why living with PTSD from trauma can become so debilitating. And why you are not to blame.
